Samsung Chromebook – My New Favorite Toy

by Joan on March 19, 2013

81H-DO3qX0L._SL1500_I feel old.  There are some new trends/fads/technologies in the world that I simply can’t figure out how to embrace.  I’m frustrated and embarrassed to say the iPad is one of them.

Yes, this Mac fan has purchased TWO iPads – the iPad 2 and the Mini.  I have tried SO HARD to love them.  Deep sigh… I don’t.  I’ve gone into the Apple Store and asked them what I’m doing wrong, what I’m not “getting”.  They look at me like I’ve got two heads.  I apparently need to get more apps.

Oh, but then Very Excellent Son Cameron showed me his Samsung Chromebook – and I fell in love.  It’s basically a thin, lightweight Google Chrome web browser.  Anything you do in a web browser can be done on the Chromebook.  Log into your Google account and all your bookmarks are there.  Access your files in the cloud – on Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.   It includes 100GB of Google Drive storage free for two years.

Oh, and did I mention it only costs $250?

Almost everything I do on a computer happens inside the Google Chrome web browser.  Facebook, Gmail, Pandora, reading blogs, writing this blog, buying stuff on Amazon – you get the idea.  That makes the Chromebook perfect for me.  So perfect, I bought Cameron’s.  Now when I head out of the house, the laptop stays behind and the lightweight Chromebook gets to go to the coffee shop with me.  The Chromebook hangs out in the kitchen with me.  The Chromebook sleeps on my bedside table.

Only downside?  I’ve gotta sell that iPad…

Sounds like something I would really like! I don’t have any Apple products at all so I think this would work out better for me than an iPad. I’ll have to check it out!
