Christmas Tree Recycling

by Joan on January 2, 2013

I was gritching at Very Excellent Husband Don before Christmas after reading our local recycling facility’s rules for what to do with all our Christmas trash.  Good grief.  It was very long and complicated and involved intricate sorting of materials and going to multiple drop-off points to get it all recycled properly.  I stuffed it all a trash bag and threw it away.  Get a better system and I will participate.  Until then, my time is worth more than that.

I do like to do my part for the environment, however.  So I did recycle the Christmas tree that I took down yesterday.

Brandy was so excited I didn’t have the heart to tell her it had been sitting in the house for a month.

Doink was much less impressed, although he did chomp at it a bit.

So there you go.  I did my part for the environment.  Recycle a tree and feed a goat, ya know?

(Doink tried to go one step further and re-purpose the tree – he made more than one attempt to drag it toward the shed.  I know he wanted to put it in his bed.  He is such a hoarder, that pig.)

(I shared this at Tilly’s NestDeborah Jean’s Dandelion House, The Self Sufficient HomeAcre and The Chicken Chick!)

lol Too cute! Love your idea to feed your goats.
I still haven’t got the tree down yet, but when I do it will be going on the deck off the dining room (still in the stand) and I’m going to fill it with pinecone stuffed home made bird suet. We will get the pleasure of seeing the birds closer since the main feeding area is away from the house. After the winter, I’ll be cutting it down to use in different ways around the gardens. The woodchipper will not be getting my tree!
Saw you sharing at Tilly’s Nest

Debbie, love your idea! How will you not get overrun with squirrels feeding on the pinecones? The squirrels around here eat EVERYTHING we put out for the birds!

Laura, I put most things edible out in the barnyard…someone out there will at least nibble on it!
