Dips for the Big Game

Super Bowl Sunday is just around the corner!!!!

Yawn.  I’m SO not a football fan.  Growing up in small town Texas completely ruined me on the sport.

But I do love good commercials and yummy food eaten with chips, so for me Super Bowl Sunday is just a good excuse to make some dips.

As far as dips go, it’s hard to beat Rotel and Velveeta.  Not to mention French’s Onion dip.  Those are flavors burned into our psyche.  And they’re oh so easy to make.

But we don’t drink Kool-Aid anymore, we make cocktails.  So let’s upgrade our dips and appetizers too.  Here’s a few of my favorites!

Caramelized Onion Dip

The key to a good caramelized onion dip is, well, good caramelized onions – not burned, not just sautéd.  This post about caramelizing onions at one of my favorite food blogs, Serious Eats, ends with a simple dip recipe that will knock your socks off.

You’ll Never Go Back to Velveeta Again Cheese Dip

I think my favorite food blog is Homesick Texan.  Lisa created this queso recipe for New Year’s Eve, but I think it would be perfect for a football party.

Fried Dill Pickles

Get over yourself and just TRY these, please.  You will LOVE THEM.  Easy to make, too!

Jalapeno Poppers

I like them breaded and Emeril has a great recipe here.  But this recipe from Food Network’s Sunny Anderson was AWESOME (I left out the chorizo, but that would probably make it yummier.)

Pimento Cheese

Again Lisa at the Homesick Texan outdid herself with this Tex-Mex Pimento Cheese recipe.

So whip up some dips, make a few appetizers, buy some good beer and enjoy the game!  Go Team!

Joan…how could you forget one of my all-time favorite dip recipes. The one that at my house we call “Joan Dip,” the one you wrote about here.
