Nothing says “I took the time to find something special just for you,” like a personalized, custom-made gift. The problem is you have to plan in advance if you want to have the gift by Christmas. That is why we are starting our annual 12 Posts of Christmas series with some wonderful custom gift ideas. You need to act quickly if you want your gift in time for the holidays.
MiniMe Bobblehead. For the person who has everything how about a Mini Me bobblehead statue? Upload a photo of the person you want to immortalize as a bobblehead, select a body type and the folks at Minime handcraft the head to look just like the photo. Not into statues? You can also get bottle openers with Minime heads, USB sticks and keychains.
Personalized Paint-By-Numbers. Remember those paint-by-numbers craft kits from your childhood? They are still around and better than ever because you can create custom kits using your own photos. The cost is about $60 for an 11″x14″ canvas (acrylic paint and brushes included.) Visit easy123art for more details.
Be a Cover Girl (or Guy.) Here’s another fun idea. Mark an important event in someone’s life with their own magazine cover. Not only do you select the picture, you get to write all the headlines. Starting at about $20, this is a super (and inexpensive) custom gift idea.
Capture the special animals in someone’s life with original art. Here are two artists we like:
- Seann Vincente is a talented artist with a fabulous eye for capturing the character of animals. Joan discovered Seann last fall and surprised Nancy with portraits of her two dachsunds, Slink and Friedl. You can read more about Seann’s work and see photographs of Nancy’s doxies here.
- Sherry Kendall, owner of Wagging Tail Portraits makes beautiful hand painted glass ornaments perfect for hanging on a Christmas tree or displaying all year round.
Fingerprints elevated to high art. The guys at DNA11 create custom digital art from fingerprints or DNA (you send them a cheek swab and they turn your DNA into art.) For the love of your life you can even create kiss art using your own lip prints! This is such a cool concept you have to check it out.
Last year Nancy created a custom pair of Vans for her sports crazy husband using the colors of his favorite sports team. Several other tennis shoe makers offer design-your-own-shoe services including:
Last week at a tailgate party we admired our friend, Pam’s, cell phone cover. She said, “I had it made by Case Mate.” Case Mate creates custom Smartphone (both iPhone and Droids,) and tablet (iPads, Kindles, Nooks, etc.) covers. Give your special someone a custom phone cover and they’ll never misplace their phone again (we hope.)
