The 12 Posts of Christmas

Starting this week we are beginning a series we’re calling The 12 Posts of Christmas. The series will focus on gift ideas, great websites to look for gifts, unique places to find gifts, scrambling for stocking stuffers and maybe, if we have any energy, something easy about decorating. These being frugal times, we’re interested in finding wonderful gifts that don’t break the budget.

We’ve thought long and hard about what we want to recommend and how to present it to you. Joan and I have very different methods of attacking our gift lists. Joan likes to sit down with catalogs, browse websites and occasionally trudge through stores looking for things that strike her as perfect for someone on her list. The problem with this, as she readily admits, is sometimes she finds 20 things she knows would be perfect for one person and nothing for someone else.

I usually write down a list of the people I need to get gifts and jot down next to their names ideas for such gifts. I want to know before I start shopping what I am generally looking for as I’m not a browsing/shopping type of girl. Unfortunately I usually am brain dead about what to get someone and I go searching online for idea lists, many of which end up leaving me cold.

To merge our different styles we decided to offer you an eclectic variety of ideas. In some cases we’ll point you to shopping websites we think are great and point out a couple of our favorite products and in other cases we have specific suggestions. For those of you who like more structure and want to see a list of “great gifts for men” or “great gifts for teens” we are creating a cross-referenced list in our 2010 Holiday Gift Guide. You’ll want to check back to it frequently, as we’re updating it as we go along.

A final note: We have no affiliate membership with any of the companies or products we are recommending and do not receive any monetary compensation from them. The one exception is Paula’s Choice.
