This summer is going by so fast – where did July go? With all the “getting stuff finished” and Sunday Suppers and kids everywhere it’s been barely organized chaos 24/7.
We didn’t even do a vacation this year. Our traditional trip has been going to see my parents at South Padre Island, but since they live here now we didn’t head down there. Besides, everyone was busy and between kid’s jobs and business trips we barely even ate dinner together – I don’t know how we would have planned seven days off at the same time.
But I take a mini-vacation almost every day when the weather gets warm. All I need to do to feel like I don’t have a care in the world is get on my scooter and go for a ride.
Excellent Husband Don got me this sweet little machine for Mother’s Day three years ago (yes, he is awesome.) You don’t need a motorcycle license to ride it and it doesn’t go over 40mph. You push a button to start it, twist the handle to make it go. How easy is that? Oh, and it gets 100mpg so I can ride and save the world all at the same time.
I scoot to appointments, to run errands, to do a quick grocery shop. I can hold a big bag of groceries in the space between my feet, and there’s lots of storage beneath the seat. I once brought home a ceiling fan from Costco on my scooter – it is a very versatile form of transportation.
I have been known to go scooting for no reason at all, except that it lifts my spirits and makes me happy.
And I can promise you there is no better feeling than to head to an outdoor patio for happy hour, pull right up to the restaurant and have more than one person do a double take when my helmet comes off and they realize it’s a gray-haired old lady on that scooter, not some sweet young thing!
