Here is part 2 of our Father’s Day Gift Guide with ideas for Smart Dads, Sports Dads and Techno (or not so techno) Dads.
Smart Dad
Sign dad up for an interesting class. At least twenty years ago I gave Alan and my dad a class at our local planetarium on summer constellations. I think it’s the best Father’s Day gift I ever came up with and certainly the one that has brought all of us the most delight.
On summer nights you’ll find us spotting the Big Dipper, arcing to Arcturus and speeding to Spica (2 bright summer stars.) We track the progression of summer by the position of the summer triangle, and love finding Cassiopeia which looks like a big W in the northeastern sky.
Sports Dad
- A golf outing
- Tickets to a game (at least 2 so he can bring a friend)
- Clothing and gear related to his favorite athletic endeavor.
- Uninterrupted time to watch World Cup. (Alan, it’s yours!)
Tech Dad
- Set up the ring tones on his cell phone (since he doesn’t know how to do it) to a distinctive ring for family members. (ATTENTION Giehl kids, your father specifically asked for this.)
- Get the right cords (and set it up) so dad can hook up his computer to the TV. Joan’s son, Cameron, did this for her for Christmas. Here are links to tutorials for hooking up MacBooks, PCs and how to hook up a wireless connection from computer to TV.
- Get him his own domain name. Joan wrote about it here.
- Get him his own logo to go with his domain name. On this site you can get a design for $25.00.
If you haven’t already seen it, be sure and check out Father’s Day Gift Guide – Part 1. We hope you’ll be able to find just the right thing for the fathers in your life!
