Wreak This Journal

by Nancy on May 28, 2010

My oldest daughter, Julie, discovered Wreak This Journal. She started playing with it. Her swim team college friends saw it. They were hooked. My daughter, Megan, saw it. She wanted one. Julie sent her one as a gift. Megan was hooked. Megan’s friends saw it, they wanted one, too.

I saw Julie’s, I wanted one. So I ordered it. I’ve been playing with it and, it’s just plain fun. Wreak This Journal, is not a journal-journal, one where you write down your every thought. It’s a creative, let-yourself-go, do something you normally wouldn’t, art journal. It makes those of us who can only draw stick figures (me), feel artistic.

On every page you do something different. Tear a page into shreds, deliberately spill coffee or juice on it or, one of my favorite pages of all, a PLACE TO PUT ALL THOSE DANG LITTLE STICKERS THAT COME ON FRUIT. How cool is that, turning something so annoying into something fun?

Wreck This Journal is the creation of artist Keri Smith. She has this cool blog where you can see pictures of other people’s journal pages. You can find the book on Amazon or most other major online book seller websites. Having seen Julie’s and played with it myself I’d say that it’s best for women, late teens and up. It would make a neat hostess gift, birthday or graduation gift, send a little something to perk up your college student gift, or heck, a perk up anybody gift. It’s truly just the right thing!

I’d just like to say that this is absolutely an awesome gift, and it’s something you can work on, put down for some time and always come back to. It’s also relatively inexpensive and gives the creator lots of freedom as to how much energy they put in to it. I love it!

Gave it to my ‘tween’ granddaughter…she loved it…always looking for something new and unusual. Thanks for the tip.

I’m glad she liked it. It’s very, very fun. I keep having to give myself permission to “mess it up” (which I’m sure you’ll get a kick out of.)
