Deep cleansing breaths. That’s my mantra during the holiday season.
Is it just me? Or is all the decorating and buying of gifts and socializing just a bit EXHAUSTING to anyone else? It not that I mind doing all of it, but man, my Christmas wish is that the laundry would give me a break and do itself for a couple of weeks.
Nonetheless, in the course of two days – the tree is up and the ornaments on, the greenery is placed and decorated, and Sawyer and I got the outside lights done on Saturday. I slogged through the shopping list in my PJs with the help of a couple of glasses of wine and the internet. (How did we get all the shopping done before the internet?) I summoned my inner crafter and made some funky garland out of little 1″ round mirrors and dental floss. I know, it sounds weird, but I think it came out great. Finally, I made a big dish of stuffed shells for a party on Sunday night, which was, by the way, great fun!
But really, WHEW! The holiday spirit was not inhabiting my body.
And then I stumbled upon this post on a website I’ve read before and love – The Happiness Project.
Gretchen reminded me that only I can make my own happiness…Remember to take time and breathe this holiday season!
P.S. I wrote this while watching “A Charlie Brown Christmas” with Sawyer and a visiting cousin. I am the Charlie Browniest. Good grief!

Soon I am joining a friend at a local yoga class. After 3 weeks in my new job, I am finding that ‘leaving it at work’ will be the single most challenging aspect of my new role. Finding and reading site like The Happiness Project are going to be important.
