Great Book for Dog Lovers

racingintherainA few weeks ago I was late getting my son up for school, too tired to take Boulé (one of my puppies) to the dog park, and groggy all day. Why? Because I stayed up until 4am reading a book I couldn’t put down. Since a good portion of my day is spent dealing with new puppies, it didn’t hurt that the main character in the book is a dog.

The Art of Racing in the Rain, by Garth Stein is a moving (but easy) read about a family’s life from a dog’s point of view.  I’ll only give one plot line away – after watching a show on Buddhism on the Discovery Channel, the dog is convinced that because he is so evolved in his next life he will be a human.  And he is excited at the prospect.  You learn this on about page three, so I’m not giving too much away.  Oh, and have I mentioned that it has the BEST ENDING OF ANY BOOK I’VE EVER READ IN MY LIFE?

This book would make a great holiday gift for any dog lover.  Or if you, like me, are the stocking stuffer purchaser (not my favorite task) for all who gather at our house on Christmas morning, then you might just want to treat yourself!

Glad you liked it! I’m hoping someone makes a movie out of it – wouldn’t that be fun to watch?
